It's been two years since Kelly Brook tied the knot with husband Jeremy Parisi, with the couple now enjoying settled life in Kent alongside their pup Teddy.
Chatting exclusively with OK!, the model, 44, gave an update on married life - jesting that it's the most 'traditional' she has ever been. "Married life is really good. This is the most traditional I’ve been in my whole life, to have a proper job, a dog and a husband, I’m like ‘who am I?’. I used to be running around town and now I'm all settled, it's mad, but it's amazing," she said.
While she may not be painting the town red these days, Kelly, who is now a host on Heart FM's Getting London Home drivetime show, admits that her career has surpassed her own expectations, after rising to fame as a pin-up model in the nineties.
"When I was starting out as a model, I thought my career would be over at 30, then I’d have babies and get married and move on. You never saw older women on magazines or anywhere so I didn't think I'd have a career in this industry. But that never happened, I became a DJ at 39, so it's amazing."
Growing up as a hopeful model didn't just have Kelly questioning the longevity of her career, but also being put under a microscope when it came to her image and body.
"There is a massive pressure being a model when it comes to how you look and what size you are. I remember going to castings and them just not letting me even try on any clothes because I had boobs and it was all about looking waif at the time.
"Designers have not wanted me to wear their dresses because I’m not a sample size, and photographers would shout at me to ‘breathe in’ on a red carpet. So, it's a lot coming from all angles."
Kelly has spoken openly about her yo-yoing weight over recent years - going between a size 16 and size 10 - and admits that she began 'neglecting' herself when life got busy.
"For a long time, I hadn’t been thinking about my weight and had kind of neglected myself. I was so focused on other things, everything is so busy as you get older and it’s like, everything else comes first and you come last."
After realising this 'neglect' towards herself, Kelly decided it was time for a change in 2018 and teamed up with weight loss brand SlimFast. She quickly lost an impressive two stone, boosting her confidence as she found a healthy balance.
To this day, the star is still working with SlimFast, and has recently collaborated with fellow brand ambassador Big Narstie on a new wellness podcast named Life Gains.
During the podcast, Big Narstie, real moniker Tyrone Mark Lindo, and Kelly shared their respective journeys with weight loss - as the latter admitted that she has learned to love herself.
"It's all about redefining your life and thinking, actually, if I can’t be fit and healthy, then I won’t be very good at work, I won’t be a very good partner, or dog mum, or whatever it is. So, let’s get me sorted and then I’ll be the best version of myself for everything I can do. And that, for me, is a life gain. Which is exactly what we talk about in the podcast, we share how it has been for us, but it's different for everyone.
"I do have days where I can't fit into my jeans, and I just say to myself, ‘It’s OK, maybe I'm bloated or it’s that time of the month, but it’s fine. I’m an older woman and maybe in a few weeks I will fit into those jeans’, so I don’t beat myself up about these kinds of things. I don’t want to look how I did when I was 20, I want to look my age, and I want to just be happy."
Hoping to convey this happiness in the podcast, Kelly shares her tips and how she has managed to love, and nourish, her body through a change in attitude.
Kelly Brook and Big Narstie's new wellness podcast is all about shifting from a ‘can’t do’ to a ‘can do’ attitude, fuelling up on SlimFast’s 23 vitamins and minerals and 14g of protein and smashing personal goals.
